How cancer and cancer treatment can affect your senses (part 1)

First Aired: October 6, 2013

We often hear about nausea and fatigue as common side effects of cancer treatment. But did you know that all five of your senses could feel the impact as well? Listen to Part 1 of a two-part series on the impact of cancer treatment on the five senses.

We are joined by Dr. Abraham Jacob, Director of the University of Arizona Ear Institute and a surgeon with the University of Arizona Cancer Center, who will talk about how some chemotherapy drugs can contribute to hearing loss. And, Julie Lanford, a registered dietitian and Wellness Director for Cancer Services Inc. in Winston-Salem, shares tips on how to cope with changes in taste and smell sensations during treatment.
